Baptism
Baptism signifies our immersion in the Christian life and marks our spiritual rebirth in the Church.
Here are some things to keep in mind as you plan for your child’s Baptism:
The family of the child needs to be registered members of St. Mary Magdalene.
Baptisms are celebrated on the first and third Saturday of each month at 10:00 a.m. During the Lenten season, the regular Saturday celebration of Baptism will not be scheduled. To schedule your child’s baptism, please contact Sarah Sansone at sansone@stmm.me.
Once your child is born, please submit a copy of the child’s birth certificate to the parish office.
Parents baptizing a child in the Catholic Church for the first time are required to attend an in-person Pre-Baptism Class. Classes are scheduled the 2nd Saturday of each month from 10:00 – 11:00
a.m. Please contact the parish office to register for a class.
Godparents are encouraged to attend the Pre-Baptism Class with the child's parents. If the godparents are unable to attend the Pre-Baptism Class at St. Mary Magdalene, they may fulfill the preparation requirement by attending a Pre-Baptism Class at their own parish and providing documentation of completion.
A child may have one or two godparents (one male, one female). Each godparent must submit a letter of recommendation from his or her home parish. This Baptism Sponsor/Godparent Testimonial may also serve as a letter of recommendation.
Adults seeking Baptism may be candidates for participation in the Order of Christian Initiation (OCIA) program. Please visit our Religious Education (Adult Faith Formation) page for more information, or contact Deacon Rick Stevens at stevens@stmm.me.
